‘Alice in Wonderland’ inspired video shoot

July 8th, 2010

In June I was invited to tag along with Brett & Kristie from NGG Studios and do some behind the scenes footage for them. The model shoot had an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme and was held at Coolibah Downs on the Gold Coast.

Many other talented wedding suppliers were on hand to showcase their work which included everything from gowns and cakes to makeup and floral designs.  Here is a list of everyone that was involved:

Cakes:  Taya from Deliciously Decadent Cake Design

Styling:  Kristy of Imbue Weddings

Gowns:  Gowns of Elegance

Flowers:  Linda of LWG Design

Fascinators:  Skye of Skye Collections

Crystal details:  Bek of Crystal Couture

Hair & Makeup:  Byron Butcher

Models:  Nicola Eudey, Beau Baxter, Dehnee Baxter

I had such a fun time on this shoot and I want to say thank you to everyone for allowing me free range to get the footage I needed.  I always try to stay invisible when I can, but I know some of you were camera shy! Sandra & Jaydem | An Island Hideaway | South Stradbroke Island wedding video

April 19th, 2010

Gold Coast Wedding Video

“Wow, wow, wow!!! Geoff, thank you SO MUCH for the brilliant job you did. We can’t stop smiling!!! You are every bit the genius we knew you would be. Thanks for getting our little baby in there too! We can’t wait to see what magic you work with our video! Thank you so much!” – Sandra & Jaydem

Sandra & Jaydem were a wonderful couple and I had so much fun time capturing such an important day in their lives.  It all started out early with the girls as they made the preparations at a unit in Southport while the boys did what they do best by sitting around, watching footy and having a cold one at the couples’ place in Oxenford.  As soon as I walked in I noticed Sabre, their pet Bull Mastiff and I couldn’t leave without getting some playful shots of him.

The ceremony and reception was on South Stradbroke Island hosted by An Island Hideaway.  Where owners Bennie & Michelle always host a great wedding event.  Photographers Grant and Kathy from Ashford Studio flew up from Sydney to take the snaps and despite the fact this was our first time working together we gelled perfectly.  The sunset provided a sensational backdrop for the last few minutes with the bridal party before dark and I was able to film a few amazing moments on the beach.

As always, you can view the clip in high definition by clicking the HD button in the playable window.  I would love to hear your feedback too by clicking ‘Add comment’ just below this posting.  I spent nearly 5 hours on this edit so I really hope you all enjoy it!

The subjects "pop" with the narrow depth of field you have chosen. Very creative. You are an artist and your work shines. These are very special memories that only video can capture... Thanks for sharing :-) (April 20, 2010 - 9:25 am)

StillMotion Evolution Experience

February 23rd, 2010

Last week I had the opportunity and privilege to spend four days with StillMotion – considered to be one of the best wedding cinematographer companies in the world. The workshop was held in Sydney and the time was spent evaluating the work of the attendees as well as seeing how they do things through their eyes and understanding how they approach each wedding and each couple.

On Day 2 we were broken up into teams and were asked to film and produce a few different projects under a tight deadline. One of which was a 30 second commercial about an airline which had to be fun and lighthearted. It had to include the “founder” and owner of the airline and paper airplanes. Our team won the challenge! Have a look:

We didn’t touch any “video cameras” the entire time and instead used HD DSLR’s for our shoots. The Canon 5d Mark II and the Canon 7d are two cameras have been changing the industry over the past year and what they can do is amazing.

My team for Day 2 of the Evolution Experience. Great group of guys!
