Fiona, a mother of two, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in April and was given six months to live. All she wanted was to marry her partner of five years in a low key affair. However after her story was published in the local media various wedding suppliers offered to donate their time to help give Fiona & Paul the wedding of their dreams. My other videographer, Barbara, and I were eager to jump on board as well.
It rained off and on before the ceremony, but right before they exchanged rings the sun came out and beamed right on their hands. It was an amazing sight and you will see it in the short highlight clip of their day above.
In this video is Monique Berryman, of Runway Makeup Artistry, who first told me about this incredible couple and she also donated her time and talent on the day.
A photographer from Woman’s Day Magazine was also at the ceremony as they were doing a story of this wonderful event. There was also a write up in the Gold Coast Bulletin which can be seen here.
***(Update) – A friend has commented in the area below on December 7th, 2009 that Fiona has passed. Our condolences to her friends and family. It was a privilege to be a small part of Fiona & Paul’s special day.

What a great thing to do mate!
Read the story…truly touching.
What can I say, I’m speechless. It was such an incredible day for the bride and groom, and I am so thrilled that you and I could be there to help this beautiful couple have the wedding that they deserve. Not only was this a sad day but it was also a very fulfilling day for the companies involved in making this day happen. People gave there time, and skills for free to make sure that Fiona and Paul got everything they both wanted. I will remember this special day for the rest of my career.
That was absolutely beautiful. I don’t even know these people & I balled my eyes out. You captured a very loving & affectionate family.
oooohhhhhhh, that was just lovely Geoff, well done. You captured a beautiful story for their family & friends. You’re the best mate.
OHHHHHHH GEOFF!!! I’m still all choked up….. That was absolutely amazing!! No words could describe! You have captured beautiful moments for this whole family to cherish forever!!! God bless this family
Beautiful Geoff!
A touching and beautiful story. One that will be remembered, treasured, cherised and loved. I’ve known Paul Bailey and his family for many years as teenagers, attending Porirua College together and closely regarded as friends. Sadly over the weekend I heard news of Fiona’s passing. My deepest sympathy and aroha to you Paul, your girl’s and whanau. Arohatinonui – Pania E and whanau xxx
I would Just like to say it was a great honor to work with Fiona on her wedding day doing her makeup and friends and family. I wish her family the very best, and love at such a very sad time of her passing.
